The Department for Transport (DfT)

The Department for Transport (DfT) works with agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country. The DfT sets the strategic direction for the rail industry in England and Wales – funding investment in infrastructure through Network Rail, awarding and managing rail franchises, and regulating rail fares.

Network Rail

Network Rail owns, manages and develops Britain’s railway – the 20,000 miles of track, 40,000 bridges and viaducts, and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations (the largest of which we also run). In partnership with train operators we help people take more than 1.6bn journeys by rail every year – double the number of 1996 – and move hundreds of millions of tonnes of freight, saving almost 8m lorry journeys. We’re spending £40bn on the railway between 2014-19 and our Railway Upgrade Plan will deliver more frequent, more reliable, safer services and brighter and better stations.

National Skills Academy for Railway (NSAR)

NSARE was established in November 2010, and NSARE Limited was incorporated in January 2011 as a ‘not for profit’ company, wholly owned by its Members. In December 2015, we dropped the ‘E’ from our name to reflect the wider industry view that we focus on all aspects of the rail industry not the engineering elements.

Community Transport Association

Rail Delivery Group (RDG)

The Rail Delivery Group is pleased to support the Station-to-Station Queen’s 90th celebration: this unique event, will showcase the modern railway to local communities. Recent investment has transformed many railway stations and more stations will reap the benefits of renovation and rebuilding in the coming years. Women in Rail

Young Rail Professionals (YRP)

Young Rail Professionals (YRP), founded in 2009, brings together young people from across the UK railway industry, covering all aspects of the industry from engineering, to asset management, train operations, strategic planning, rolling stock design, maintenance, franchising, regulation, marketing, etc. We currently have over 3,600 members.

Rail Alliance

Spanning all aspects of the railway sector and its supporting industries, The Rail Alliance embraces current and aspirational industry involvement and provides members with the opportunity to network, collaborate and innovate with both suppliers and customers.

Rail Forum East Midlands

The East Midlands is home to the world’s largest cluster of rail companies making a significant contribution to the UK economy every year. Rail Forum East Midlands represents some 170 of these organisations; we are their voice in Westminster; with regional governments at home and in markets overseas.

ACoRP

ACoRP – the Association of Community Rail Partnerships – is the membership body for almost 50 CRPs (community rail partnerships), representing over 80 community rail lines across the UK, as well as more than 1,000 station adoption groups.

We are working with 5 major transport owning groups to deliver a 3-month programme known as the the HackTrain Accelerator. The programme brings together 10 early stage technology companies helping and supporting them in introducing their products and services into the rail industry

Branchlines

The Society is a UK-based voluntary association for railway enthusiasts. It is a nationally spread organisation with a membership of approaching 1000 (including a few resident overseas). It was established in 1955 and is widely recognised as Britain’s leading amateur group for the study of railway infrastructure and history of networks (and not nowadays, despite its title, just minor lines). It pursues its aims by a news service, tours and visits, and the production and distribution of publications.

Unlike many enthusiast groups, our emphasis is on the physical works and on operating arrangements, rather than power and rolling stock. Whilst seeking to record matters of history accurately for archive purposes, a prime aim is to publicise coming events and activities.
